PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO REVIEW BELOW AND ADVISE IF YOU CAN HELP US:
1) You will begin to see social media posts about the Blitz showing up from the club. PLEASE FORWARD LIBERALLY AND REPEATEDLY to your friends, family, co-workers, neighbours. There will be a steady of new material coming out over the coming weeks. FORWARD THOSE, TOO.
2) Vouchers can be purchased NOW and used on any one of the FOUR pick up dates. PLEASE NOTE DUE TO COVID THERE CAN BE NO PICK UP AT BERRYHILL OTHER THAN THE SCHEDULED DATES. If you wish to order vouchers, please send an email to Bruce Beck at bbb1771@shawbiz.ca. Vouchers are for BLUEBERRY sales ONLY. Raspberries and strawberries will be available on a LIMITED BASIS on the pick up dates only. Cheques should be payable to the ROTARY CLUB OF ABBOTSFORD.
3) If friends or family want to purchase online, they can do so at https://fvblueberryblitz.eventbrite.com Please tell your contacts that there is a 10% surcharge to use the online service and that we want them to select the ABBOTSFORD ROTARY CLUB as the recipient of their sales (which they have to do before they can print their pick up voucher). There are no service fees for purchasing the $25 advance sale voucher from a club member.
4) Thanks to Barry & Pat for already volunteering to deliver vouchers to club members who in turn can pass them on to their contacts. We could use two or three more volunteers. Please send an email to Bruce Beck if you’d be willing to help out.
5) This year, we will be having four scheduled pick up dates for the public. The first two will happen Sat Oct 3 & Sat 31, from 10 am-4 pm. We will need several club volunteers to work either a single 3 hr shift or a double 6 hr shift. EVERY CLUB MEMBER WHO VOLUNTEERS FOR A MINIMUM 3 HOUR SHIFT IN OCTOBER WILL HAVE THEIR NAME ENTERED INTO A DRAW TO RECEIVE ONE FREE 10LB BOX OF BLUEBERRIES. Send an email to Bruce if you are willing to volunteer on one of the Oct dates. Better to volunteer than be volun-told.
The needs in our community have never been greater than they are during this pandemic. 100% of all the profits our club receives from Berry Blitz will go towards supporting local groups and individuals in Abbotsford. Please take a moment to let us know how you can help us make a difference in our hometown.
This week Adam Hill and Alex Carmichael from Fraser Valley Rotaracts will be our guest speakers.
If you have any suggestions for a speaker, please send them to Marion Keys at mmkeys@shaw.ca or call at 604-308-0406.

It is with great pleasure that I share with you the second volume of the Rotaract 5050 Newsletter. This newsletter was created to share what each club in our district has done and is continuing to do throughout the Rotary year.
The Rotaractors for District 5050 have been working hard despite all the changes to service COVID-19 has brought us. We hope you enjoy this newsletter and look forward to seeing it each quarter of the year as we continue updating the district and fellow rotarians on all that we do.
We recently received an invitation from Toastmasters, for anyone who may be interested:
Name: Scott Friedman Subject: Rotary-Toastmaster Alliance Message: Good afternoon,
I am writing to you because Toastmasters International suggested its members include Rotary International members in our events and we offer to speak at Rotary events. As such, I would like to invite you and your club members to a free Toastmasters club virtual event on 10/3/2020.
If you would like to know anything about the event, see the event website https://tinyurl.com/y65mou4l. If you would like to attend any portion of the event, click the [Register Now!] button on the event website.
If your club is looking for a speaker, I welcome the opportunity to speak with the club about almost any topic, during a virtual meeting. I am available to speak shortly after the 10/3/2020 event.
Pat Tonn recently received this thank you note from student recipient of Rotary Club of Abbotsford awards:
August 20, 2020
Abbotsford Rotary Club
Dear Donor of the Abbotsford Rotary Club Award,
My name is Jesna and I am the recipient of the Abbotsford Rotary Club Award, for 2020. I am truly grateful for being selected as the recipient of this special award and wanted to say thank you.
I will be attending UFV in the fall to continue my educational goal of becoming a registered nurse. This award will really help support me in paying for my school fees, as my dad struggles financially to cover the cost of my education. It has always been a goal to enter the healthcare field, and with these funds, this will help make my dream a reality. Again, thank you so much for your kind generosity.
District 5050 forming a working group to address DEI
The District is committed to assisting clubs to increase membership, better reflect their communities, and ensure there is understanding of what is meant by Rotary's commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Towards this end, the District is forming a DEI Working Group. If you are interested in working on these issues please contact Lindagene Coyle at lindacoyle5050@gmail.com
Rotary International continues to work on branding and communication of our organization throughout the world. They are pushing for greater exposure within the press, radio, television and social media.
To this end, we would like to encourage all members to participate, with contribution, on our social media sites.
