Urgent: President's Message
Although the calendar still says “September” we are, in fact, only one weekly meeting away from our 2nd Annual Halloween Bash.

A team of fellow club members, including George Ho, John Friesen, Dan Denis, Milt Walker, Kim Hissink, Deanna McIntyre, Dave Loewen, have been working very hard for months to get our club ready for our single biggest fund raiser.

They, along with others in the club, have done an amazing job of securing sponsors and planning for an amazing evening of fun.

Those sponsors are expecting YOU & I to fill the house in order to maximize the impact of their valuable sponsorship dollars.

Hungry kids who depend on Starfish Packs are counting on YOU & I to raise the funds to ensure they have something to eat every weekend throughout the school year.

Single mothers in Guatemala are waiting for YOU & I to buy sewing machines so that they can learn a job skill and provide income for their kids.

Children and youth in Guatemala who need a wheelchair because of permanent damage to their spines due to car accidents and being caught in gang crossfire are waiting on YOU & I.

What will these people do if we don’t deliver? What will our sponsors say the next time they ask us to support us if we don’t deliver?

It’s time for YOU & I to step up.

We are calling on EVERY SINGLE MEMBER to commit to sell 4 tickets and to do so BEFORE Thanksgiving (if you’ve already provided a sponsorship that comes with tickets, your work is already done).

The easiest way is simply to plan to come yourself with a spouse or significant other and two friends.

But even if you can’t attend, we NEED you to sell 4 tickets to family, friends, co-workers.

Tell people that this is Rotary’s only opportunity THIS year to raise funds to support Starfish Packs and international work with single Moms and kids.

Being a member of the Rotary Club of Abbotsford is about more than socializing and being inspired by weekly speakers.

Our goal has always been to be THE service club in this place we call home.

None of us can do that alone.  Every single one of us has to contribute.

As Club President, on behalf of your entire board and your Fund Raising Committee, I am asking EVERY SINGLE CLUB MEMBER TO email Fund Raising Chair George Ho ( ghkl51@gmail.com ) to confirm that we can count on you to sell a minimum of 4 tickets to our biggest annual fundraiser BEFORE Thanksgiving.

Your fellow club members have done the work.

Local Businesses have stepped up with their hard earned cash.

The rest, and the kids our efforts will support, depend on YOU & I.

Please email George Ho ASAP to let us all know we can count on you.

Bruce Beck, President
Abbotsford Rotary Club

Rotary Theme for March 2020

CELEBRATE ROTARY WATER AND SANITATION MONTH!

Promote World Water Day

World Water Day on 22 March is an opportunity to learn about Rotary’s commitment to provide clean water and sanitation.
During March, Rotary Water and Sanitation Month, many Rotary clubs around the world will be celebrating our commitment to create healthier communities by supplying clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

District Conference 2020
Please note the District Conference has been cancelled. All club members should have received the following message March 16:

It is with deep regret that I must inform you that Conference Chair Kevin Wood and I have decided that we must cancel the Rotary District 5050 Conference this year.

The government of BC has banned all gatherings over 250 people and we will have over 250 people at our conference. The government has recommended not having gatherings of more than 50 people.

There are now over 100 cases of the coronavirus in BC and health experts are expecting this number to increase.  As you may know, at this time in both the United States and Canada, the goal is ‘flatten the curve’ so as not to overwhelm the health care system.

We want to ensure all Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and their partners and children are kept safe.

We would like to thank the Conference Committee for all its hard and dedicated work over the past two years to put on what we believe would have been an excellent conference with great attendance including over 60 new conference attendees.  We would also like to thank our generous sponsors who supported the conference with $20,000.

We will start to process refunds soon but please give us some time to do so.

We will be meeting with the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel to determine the best way to cancel room bookings so please do not contact the hotel.   For those who booked rooms at other hotels, please contact them directly.

And please be safe and stay healthy.

At your Rotary Service,

Brad
