Prospera Gives $10,500 to Starfish Pack Program
DONATION WILL PROVIDE BACKPACKS FOR 20 CHILDREN IN ABBOTSFORD
With the support of community partners and individual donors, what began as a pilot project in early 2013 funded by the Rotary Club of Abbotsford (with a single school and ten backpacks), has expanded into a full scale program that currently serves 213 children from 14 schools in Abbotsford.
At a special luncheon last week hosted by the Rotary Club of Abbotsford, Prospera Credit Union presented a cheque for $10,500, which will allow the program to expand even further.
“It’s
hard for a child to learn and grow when they don’t have enough food to eat,”
says Bruce Howell, President and CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “The Abbotsford
Starfish Pack Program is making a real difference in the lives of local school
children and we’re thrilled to be able to support them with a donation of
$10,500, which will provide 20 students with a backpack filled with food every
week.”
“Rotary Club of Abbotsford is extremely pleased that Prospera stepped up with a cheque for $10,500.00 to support the Food Bank with the Starfish Backpack Program,” says Rotary Club of Abbotsford President, Hugh Ellis. “This generous donation will provide 20 additional backpacks. Prospera is a Starfish Superstar!”
